چکیده

We demonstrate bowtie apertures that were designed and fabricated by a lift-off process to optically trap individual, 30 nm, silica-coated quantum dots (scQD). Simulations and experiments confirm the trapping capability of the system with a relatively low continuous wave trapping flux of 1.56 MW/cm at 1064 nm. Additionally, the scQD emits upon trapping via two-photon excitation from the trapping laser due to strong field enhancement inside the aperture. This system is an exciting platform for studying light−matter interactions and mulitphoton processes in single emitters.

Two-photon quantum dot excitation during optical trapping.

A single CW infrared laser beam can simultaneously trap and excite an individual colloidal quantum dot. Though the laser light is relatively weak, the excitation occurs through two-photon absorption. This finding eliminates the demand for an excitation light source in addition to a trapping laser in nanoscale experiments with simultaneous force-manipulation and quantum dot visualization. Also, ...

Quantum dots as handles for optical manipulation

Individual colloidal quantum dots can be optically trapped and manipulated by a single infrared laser beam operated at low laser powers. If the absorption spectrum and the emission wavelength of the trapping laser are appropriately chosen, the trapping laser light can act as a source for two-photon excitation of the trapped quantum dot. This eliminates the need for an additional excitation lase...

Study of quantum size effects and optical characteristics in colloidal Cd1-xSnxTe quantum dotes

In this work, we report, optical properties of Cd1-xSnxTe quantum dots (x= 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) synthesized in water using thioglycolic acid (TGA) as a modifier agent. The optical characterization of the samples was performed through absorption (UV) and photoluminescence spectra (PL). A red shift absorption and fluorescent emission peaks was observed which can be related t...

Sub-diffraction positioning of a two-photon excited and optically trapped quantum dot.

Colloidal quantum dots are luminescent long-lived probes that can be two-photon excited and manipulated by a single laser beam. Therefore, quantum dots can be used for simultaneous single molecule visualization and force manipulation using an infra-red laser. Here, we show that even a single optically trapped quantum dot, performing restricted Brownian motion within the focal volume, can be two...
